Specialist for hip replacements, knee replacements and partial knee replacements
IOC Sports Physician
I am a senior physician in the Department of Orthopedics and Traumatology at the Evangelical Hospital Vienna and specialize in the implantation of hip replacements, knee replacements and partial knee replacements (unicompartmental joint replacement). I also treat sports injuries and diseases of the musculoskeletal system using minimally invasive techniques.
Specialization in endoprosthetics
My focus is on artificial joint replacement for hip and knee osteoarthritis. Whenever possible, I utilize modern, muscle-sparing surgical techniques to optimally preserve function and mobility. For suitable indications, I rely on the unicompartmental knee replacement, which allows for the preservation of healthy joint structures and accelerates rehabilitation.
In my practice, hip replacements are frequently implanted using the so-called bikini incision (anterior approach – AMIS technique). This minimally invasive technique enables a muscle-sparing operation via a transverse skin fold in the groin area. The incision is cosmetically inconspicuous and generally allows for particularly rapid mobilization after the procedure.
I perform both primary implantations and complex revision surgeries (revision arthroplasty).
About me – international education & research
I was able to deepen my specialist knowledge in endoprosthetics through a Research Fellowship at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City (USA) – the leading orthopedic hospital in the United States. I completed another guest fellowship at the Charité Berlin, supported by a scientific grant.
My research results have received several awards. With my habilitation thesis “Innovations in Endoprosthetics,” I was granted the academic teaching license by the Medical University of Vienna. Since then, I have been working as a private lecturer and speaker at international conferences.
Instructor for hip and knee prostheses
I am active as an instructor for hip and knee prosthesis implantations and train colleagues as part of training courses and surgical training. A particular focus here is the minimally invasive AMIS technique in hip arthroplasty and the robot-assisted total knee arthroplasty.
Treatment of sports injuries
In addition to endoprosthetics, the treatment of sports injuries is one of my main areas of focus. I rely on minimally invasive procedures such as arthroscopic procedures on the knee or shoulder joint, as well as modern concepts for fracture care.
By successfully completing the internationally renowned IOC Sports Medicine Diploma, I am licensed as a sports physician for the Olympic Games.
My approach
My goal is to help patients regain their mobility, quality of life, and independence – through individual care, modern surgical methods, and a clear focus on function and sustainability. Experience, precision, and personal dialogue are at the core of my work.
